The Reunion 2010 (Winter)
The group were very fortunate to have been able to perform this play written by Peter Gordon. It was the first time it was performed in the UK in it's published format. With a good balance between male and female characters and a funny and fast paced script it was an absolute pleasure to watch. A group of old friends meet up for a Reunion 25 years on, with partners & girlfriends in tow at the "local". "Just don't mention the sausage rolls..."
Ladies Day 2010 (Summer)
The choice of play was a clever one; a play that used only a few actors, but in demanding and fulfilling roles. The play is so well written: funny, witty, poignant, and thought provoking. It is so entertaining. What I found really clever was the contrast between the first scene and the others. The audience is thrown from the mundane chat of the previous night’s tea at the fish filleting plant to the excitement of York races and the study of each characters high’s and low’s. Murder Weekend 2009 (Autumn)
This modern play was a great mixture of suspense and comedy. It is well written. The characters are well defined and the dialogue gives the actors a real chance to develop their own roles. What I liked was the dual plot that evolved as the play unfolded: the story of the couples arriving for a hotel's murder weekend and the more sinister story that unravels at the end of the play. Abandonment 2009 (Summer)
The choice of Kate Atkinson's "Abandonment" was a bold one from the outset. Some of our group may have felt it was even beyond our capabilities for a wide variety of reasons: It is a modern play with modern themes and modern language. The dual time zones would be a challenge to stage. The cast would need to be up to the challenge of a fast moving script. Download the full critique.
